Can you be sent to court if you send your kid late to school?

I just started working full time and I have a 13 yr old sister whom I take to school daily. Their day usually begins at 8:15 but I have been taking her at around 8:30-8:40 give or take. Has anybody ever been summoned or legally penalized. My mother has told me that it might happen but I think she is just trying to scare me. I know it is no good to take a kid late to school but I'm just trying to get used to my daily life since its my first full time job.
