How does this philosphy sound?

they say all is fair in love and war. My friend happened to like this girl and both of them were in love and planned to marry. Her parents however decided otherwise considering that the lad does not have a job. This guy has been toiling day and night to find a job and has been crying over the unjust nature of love. When i found out i told him to work hard and when he is financially settled, send a clear cut message to her family that he doesnt need her and that love is unconditional. He agrees with me, after considerable contemplation............ i hope i did the right thing. ( mind you he never believed in a correlation between love and finance)
