Any tips on how to keep the costs down for your newborn / baby?

Any tips or suggestions (beside for garage sales) for the monthly expenses of your baby? For the many benefits, I hope to feed for several months. I am due Feb 3 and a little overwhelmed by how much diapers, food toys ect. cost. We are on a tight budget and trying to save (due to the economy). Everything "baby" (especially toys) seem so overpriced!
