My girlfriend is spotting while taking the pill?

shes been on the pill for about 6 -7 months now and we have unprotected and she just started spotting and this is the first time she has been spotting while on the pill.. she has taken the pill everyday at the same time and has never missed or been late when taking it. is this normal?
